Hey everyone in Murrieta, Temecula, Menifee, Tenaja, and all the high-risk fire zones in California,
I just wanted to give you a real update from someone living this nightmare every single day.
I live in Tenaja, Murrieta (92562). My homeowners insurance is now through the California FAIR Plan — and let me tell you, I’m still not sure what’s “fair” about it.
They told me my minimum fire coverage has to be at least 1% of the current market value of my house every year. Not what I paid to build it. Not my mortgage balance. Not even close to replacement cost based on what it actually cost me. It’s based on whatever the market says my house is worth right now. And they update it every year — or whenever they feel like reevaluating the property.
So every time home values go up, my insurance bill goes up with it. Even though I did everything right: defensible space, upgrades, the whole nine yards. This isn’t sustainable. Families are being forced to choose between paying insurance or keeping their homes.
Meanwhile, the California FAIR Plan (the so-called “insurer of last resort”) is exploding: 668,609 policies in force and $724 billion in total exposure as of December 2025 — that’s up 230% since 2022.
That’s why I started this petition: Cap Fire Insurance Premiums in High-Risk California Zones.
