Cancel the Wildwood Beach Parking Lot

The Issue

It has been announced that the city of Wildwood plans to open a new 1000 space parking lot on the beach of Wildwood, New Jersey at Baker Avenue between the Convention Center and Morey's Pier's Adventure Pier. The parking lot will have some regulations including a $10 admission fee, daily hours of 10am to 6pm, and restrictions to vehicles other than those equipped with four wheel drive.

The residents of Wildwood, New Jersey and a large majority of tourists have already shown a distaste for the concept parking lot which is projected to open during weekends from Memorial Day to June 15th, and then every day from then on. Many concerns have been raised including but not limited to:

  • The unappealing look of having a parking lot on the beach
  • Potential vehicle fluid leaks causing harm to the beach itself
  • Beach rule violations in result of cars being welcomed on the beach
  •  Unsafe conditions for pedestrians walking through the proposed parking area

The people of Wildwood and the majority of those who visit regularly are outraged that this parking lot plan is being put in place and would like the City of Wildwood to strongly reconsider. It is feared that the earning potential from such a parking lot has shrouded the good judgement of those responsible for approving this parking lot, and has caused them to ignore the desires of the people who love the beaches of Wildwood. We, the audience who would otherwise be customers for a parking lot like this, are not interested. Instead, we are disappointed and are forming this petition the get the decision overturned for the benefit of all Wildwood beach visitors.
