The Issue

Growing up, I have always found solace in the company of dogs. These voiceless animals have been my companions in times of joy and sorrow alike. In my neighborhood, the friendly strays have been more than just street dogs to many of us; they are a part of our community family. However, the recent decision by local authorities to relocate these innocent creatures is heartbreaking and unjust.

Stray dogs in Delhi are facing an uncertain future due to a directive that mandates their relocation. The rationale behind this decision does not take into account the welfare of the dogs, their safety, or even the sentiments of those of us who love them dearly. Relocating these animals causes them undue stress, disrupts their habitat, and exposes them to new dangers. Not to mention, it breaks the bond that has been built over years with residents who consider them an integral part of their lives.

Statistics from the World Health Organization highlight that humane management of stray animals is far more effective than relocation. Moreover, relocation does not address the root issues of overpopulation and community safety. Implementing spaying, neutering, and vaccination programs are proven, sustainable solutions that help stabilize the stray dog population while ensuring public health safety.

City landscapes are not mere human habitats; they belong to every living creature that calls them home. Moving strays does not align with a compassionate city model nor adheres to global standards of animal care and management. Many global cities have successfully integrated stray dogs into their communities through bonding programs and welfare initiatives.

We need to urge the authorities to reconsider this decision and adopt a more humane approach. Collaboration with animal welfare organizations can lead to initiatives that allow these loving animals to coexist peacefully in our communities. As stewards of our city's well-being, it is our responsibility to create an environment where every living being can thrive.

Please sign this petition to demand the reversal of the stray dogs' relocation decision in Delhi and advocate for their humane treatment.
