Petition updateCancel culture strikes again for Roy Chubby Brown from the Ambassador Theatre GroupA statement from Richard Hoyle (Mr Vaseys tour manager)

Well what a week last week was, there’s never a dull moment, at the start of last week another venue said NO to programming a Chubby show, And it’s one that Roy has played many times in the past, I’m afraid I have to report.. BRIDLINGTON SPA THEATRE have informed me in a very short email (and I quote) that …. they can no longer “accommodate“ the Roy Chubby Brown Show.. , I’m sorry I have no other info as to why or what that actually means apart from the above, only the venues powers that be can answer that question for you ??

Also.. and I HOPE YOU’RE SITTING DOWN !!!!

To my AMAZEMENT and utter DISBELIEF the Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG) who have venues all over the UK.. have informed me that due to their apparent equity, diversity & inclusivity values (sound familiar?) they will no longer be looking to book any more Chubby shows at ANY of their venues across the board (country)in the future, I looked up the actual definitions of their values and added my little opinion for what it’s worth below, you’ll prob be as BAFFLED as I am with their decision…

Equity meaning.. fairness & justice..

Is it fair or just for ATG group to decide/dictate what it’s customers can and can’t watch at its venues, especially when there is a massive demand from its customers for the chubby show, it certainly isn’t in my opinion.

Diversity meaning.. inclusion for all regardless of race, ethnic background, sexual orientation or gender..

Roy, myself and all the Chubby gang welcome everyone across the board to Roy’s shows 100%, no exceptions, regardless of the above, anyone who sees Roys act for exactly what it is.. SIMPLY COMEDY and all those who don’t see it that way, simply don’t buy a ticket, (nobody is forcing you) don’t attend, the show is behind closed doors, it’s not available on tv or generally to the public, so only people who CHOOSE to attend and love Chubby’s humour and have for 30/40 plus years are there, what is the issue , ARGHHHHH It’s not rocket science.

Inclusion meaning.. the action to include all in a group/structure ….

Is the ATG inclusion value not excluding Chubby fans from being entertained at their venues with something they wish to attend, therefore a total contradiction yet again.. IN MY HUMBLE OPINION they should make all types of shows, regardless of the nature, available to the public, would that not be inclusivity and the way forward surely? the last I heard was that we do still live in a country where we have freedom of choice/speech, a DEMOCRACY I believe it’s called!!!

The decision is more AMAZING to me as Roy has worked with ATG and performed at most of its UK venues successfully over the last god knows how many years, the nature of Roy’s act hasn’t changed so why now is it suddenly against their values, Roy has just recently performed at 2 of ATG ‘s venues, Leas Cliff Hall in Folkestone and Victoria Hall in Hanley/ Stoke on Trent, both shows sold out /packed to the rafters, attached below are videos of the ends of both shows and still photos of both evenings at the ATG venues, full standing ovations, does anyone there look upset or offended at the end of the show or does everyone just look very happy and had / having a fantastic evenings entertainment and a good belly laugh? Why because they see it as SIMPLY COMEDY!!

I could go on all day, but i feel I’m just repeating the same old same old and sure you will have your own views and are probably getting as tired as I am with it all, well you can rest assured I will be trying to source/find other venues for you to attend in the areas who see the Chubby show for exactly what it is.. COMEDY I really feel for anyone starting off in this business the way it’s going these days, it’s totally crazy, personally I just cannot get my head around Roy being banned from the Victoria halls Hanley / Stoke in particular, having performed there annually every year for what must be at least 20 years, recording one of his DVDs there which helped promote the venues profile as well as bringing much needed business to not only the venue & employment for venue staff, but also revenue & business for the owners and employment for all the staff of all retail outlets, including bars, restaurants public houses, hotels, taxis, buses trains etc surrounding the venue, an unbelievable decision to ban Roy generally in my opinion by the ATG group , trust me I am more than aware that so many of you attend the Victoria Halls to see Chubby every year without fail, and Roy is very much loved in Stoke as he is all over, so you will obviously be very disappointed to say the least and the decision will cause a lot of resentment, that’s putting it mildly!!!! All i can do is apologise regarding ATG’s decision to ban Roy from performing, (I have asked them to reconsider but have had no response) it’s out of my hands and nothing I can do about it ununfortunately.

So we soldier on! and as I said I will keep trying to find new venues near your home towns all over the UK where we have been banned recently by our usual venues, if Roy isn’t performing in your home town it’s more than likely due to the venue/council not being prepared to book the show so please send any suggestions if you know of a venue that would possibly be suitable and be prepared to put the show on. Looking for 350/400 capacity, plus theatre style seating venues and remember IT’S SIMPLY COMEDY if CHUBBY isn’t your cup of tea, then don’t buy a ticket and you won’t be offended, but don’t try and stop others LAUGHTER AND ENJOYMENT….again ARGHHHHH !!!

A very confused, baffled, disappointed, angry, mind blown, frustrated manager!!!!!

P.S.

Unbelievable the icing on the cake is.. we’ve just literally had this back today from the venue regarding putting Chubby on at the Hexagon in Reading, for all Roy’s fans in Reading, they have decided and we quote...

I’m afraid it will have to be a pass from us as we don’t feel that he would be right for our audience

Our view is.. isn’t it good of THEM to decide what you the people of Reading can like and not like.
