This letter is posted to raise public awareness. It can be shared with others more broadly.
On December 18, 2019 the attached letter was sent to Ministers Carolyn Bennett, Marc Miller, and Maryam Monsef. At this time we asked for a meeting in January 2020 as this is a matter of urgency. To date, we have received no reply regarding the importance of ensuring that the 450,000 First Nations women and their descendants, newly entitled through the enactment of Bill S-3, can actually get registered in a timely and just way. The rights of these women and their descendants to equal protection of the law and to culture are still being violated as long as they do not have the status to which they are entitled. We hope for a swift reply and look forward to meeting with the three Ministers so that we can move forward to ensure that the rights of the First Nations women and their descendants are fulfilled. Thank you for your attention to this matter and your assistance.
