Baits and attractants are things such as grain, other animal feed, and lures. These are used to attract (or bait) the animal you are hunting into giving up its guard making it easier to kill. Chronic Wasting disease is an always-fatal nervous system disease that causes proteins to break down in cervids (deer, elk, and moose). This disease can be transmitted through saliva, feces, urine, and any genetic material or excrement that gets into the soil, and contact with the carcasses of an infected cervid. When using bait or an attractant this increases the risk of an animal contracting CWD. If we stop using baits and attractants we will lessen the spread of CWD. In turn, lessen the decease on cervid population in Canada.
