Here is what happened with this petition and the conversation around the debates since last Wednesday:
1) We are quickly approaching 14 000 signatures! (Can we make it 20 000 by Friday?)
2) All Parties have agreed to attended a French language consortium debate
3) The major networks have been discussing the chaos that is organizing this years debates.
Thank you all for your support. Debates matter, especially this largest set that in the last election reached 11 million viewers and listeners.
This petition will keep going until the Consortium confirms or cancels the English language debate. I think we all should continue to pressure our Party leaders to attend. As a nationally televised (and radio) debate, it will likely be the most watched and listened to of all political events this election cycle.
Please continue to circulate this petition. This method of reaching out to our leaders is intended to be open to all voters, and would be voters. You do not need to have specific Party allegiance to agree to the principles of debate, and the importance of these events in our election cycles.
It is also important to send a clear message to whomever forms the next government, that these political games with the debates are not welcome.
