Hi folks, I just wanted to hightlight two things: 1) the Globe and Mail is also running a debate this election cycle. This is a good thing, particularly with the longest election campaign since 1872. Additionally, this is a good thing because it will reach out to that many more voters. I am a fan of the CBC, and the other Consortium members have their fan base as well. But the more debates, viewed by more Canadians ought to relate to a more engaged electorate. I see this as a positive step for our democracy. Attached is an interesting article about the debates. 2) I give special mention to the CBC not just because I am a fan, but also because as a Crown Corporation, anyone who wants to be Prime Minister ought to support the CBC in my opinion. It is not enough to promise accountability within the CBC, or increase funding (decrease in one Party's opinion), or agree to interviews. A person who wants to be Prime Minister ought to show up to the debates. The CBC and Consortium have for decades put competition aside for the sake of reaching out to millions of Canadians for the sake of our democracy. Having our leaders appear on stage and compare face to face the various leadership styles, personal charisma, and policy is important. Mr. Harper has for whatever reason, decided not to attend the debates. I believe we should to pressure him and encourage ALL the invited to leaders to show up. It is important the other leaders attend regardless of Mr. Harper's stance because it will allow the our leaders to compare their policy and style without the need to speak of why change is necessary, and focus directly on what change they offer. This will be done in both official languages, and be broadcast to the largest audience possible. Not to mention, it will show real support for the CBC.
