I know it's been awhile since my last update and I was really hoping the next one would be the last and contain the news we have all been waiting and wanting to hear. Unfortunately, when I opened the message I had been waiting eagerly to receive, my day was not made to say the least (anyone else catch a bit of high society "get fucked from our pantheon," vibe or is ot just me?) This doesn't mean that I'm giving up, no, it means myself and everyone who wants to see our Pig on the Walk of Fame just has to get creative in our efforts. I have some ideas and if you do as well, feel free to share and don't be shy about letting #CWOFame know how you feel about their decision.

Keep looking out for and loving one another while we continue to get by and survive in this dirty old life!

Also check out the new SNFU EP, A Blessing but with It a Curse. A collection of five songs recorded during sessions for In the Meantime and in Between Time. Featuring guitar by Chris Hannah and back up vocals by Propaghandi on Hale Bop. Out now on guitarist Marc Belke's own label, Rake Records. Dedicated to the life & legacy of Kendall Chinn aka Mr. Chi Pig

Below is my most recent correspondence with Canada Walk of Fame's Ms. Griffin Sokal, Director of Creative, Brand Marketing & Partnerships.

Good morning, Griffin

I hope you are well and keeping safe & sane while we safely enjoy this terric plague from our many screens.

I'll keep it short and to the point. I'm writing again, as the creator & account manger of the petition for Kendal "Chi Pig" Chinn to receive a star on Canada's Walk of Fame, to ask if there has been any further consideration for his star this year? I mean no disrespect but looking back at past inductees like Shawn Mendes, I wonder how Ken hadn't received one while he was a living legend? I see that Alan Slaight was the only inductee of 2020, celebrated with the hour long Etalk hosted special and that they paid respects to other icons who had passed that year. I was not aware of the special as I was told no inductions would be happening in 2020 so I may have missed it but was there a mention (can't find anything online) of Chi's legacy or at least his passing?

I hope the Executive Selection Committee takes a long and empathetic look at the tumultuous life of a truly iconic and path paving Canadian.

Take care and have a great day

Cheers

Patrick Long

P.s.

If needing some more information on the legend, you can check out the documentary by Sean Patrick Shaul, "Open Your Mouth and Say Mr. Chi Pig." If you would like an indepth and "enjoy anywhere," version of events, the biography of the band he fronted, SNFU, and his life, "What No One Wanted To Say," written and self published by another amazingly talented Canuck Chris Walters, can be found on most Canadian library shelves both physically and digitally.

Good morning Patrick,

I hope you are doing well and thank you for your email.

We truly appreciate your inquiry and are happy to clarify a few points you’ve brought to our attention. At the time of our last communication, we had mentioned that we were not having our annual induction gala due to COVID-19. Following that communication and because of COVID restrictions that prevented us from having our gala in the traditional sense, our team and board made the decision to celebrate our past 10 years of Allan Slaight Music Impact Honourees in a special televised broadcast on CTV, and while doing so, induct Allan Slaight. Shawn Mendes was profiled because he is one of our 10 past Allan Slaight Music Impact Honourees, but has not been inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame. Finally, the posthumous tributes on the broadcast were all Canada’s Walk of Fame Inductees we had lost in the past year, hence why Kendal “Chi Pig” Chinn was not mentioned.

Canada’s Walk of Fame respectfully appreciates the number of nominations that have been received over the past year for Kendal “Chi Pig” Chinn, and further considering the thousands of nominations we receive annually for worthy Canadians, it is quite a challenging process to select our Inductees.  We currently have an expansive list of well-known and extraordinary Canadian achievers who are yet to be Inducted.

Kendal "Chi Pig" Chinn indeed has an extensive musical resumé and the popularity that resonates with his fans is extremely compelling.  However, the selection process is more comprehensive.   The number of nominations received is not the only qualifying factor for Induction into Canada’s Walk of Fame.  Our specific selection criteria serves a purpose to assist us in recognizing an extraordinary Canadian’s career as a whole including, accolades of achievement, having a significant positive impact in their field of achievement, on a national and international scale, while also inspiring our next generation of Canadians.

While I know this is not the news you wanted to hear, I want to be clear about the situation we are in.  When I started at Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2015, I was shocked to see the list of literally hundreds if not thousands of nominees not yet inducted.

We sincerely hope you understand our position and we wish you the best.

Thank you for reaching out to Canada’s Walk of Fame.
