By supporting our campaign to ban the trade and sale of shark fins in Canada, you’re helping save sharks. Find out what species live in Canadian waters.

Shark finning is illegal in Canadian waters; however, Canada is the largest importer of shark fins outside of Asia.

Canada has the longest coastline in the world, with an ocean surface area of 7.1 million square kilometres. We also border three oceans, meaning there’s lots of room for sharks! There have been recorded sightings of up to 28 different species of sharks off the coast of Canada.

Some can swim up to 74 kilometres an hour and others can jump up to six metres into the air! From blue sharks to basking sharks and so many more, find out what shark species live in Canada’s coastal waters.

Like hearing about sharks and taking action to protect the ocean? Join Oceana Canada as a Wavemaker to stay up to date on the shark fin ban and other ocean issues happening right here in Canada.

Please keep sharing our petition to ban the trade of shark fins in Canada on social media with #FinBanNow. With the support of people like you, we can save the oceans and feed the world.

For the oceans,
