Dear Supporter

I have changed the name of the petition to reflect the ongoing campaign for greater recognition of Mary Seacole in British society. She was rejected by the Bank of England in the recent £50 note science category and  now Matt Hancock and Sir Simon Stevens do not want to recognise Mary Seacole in any of the covid-19 hospitals in England and Wales. Please see details for plans for the roll out of more Nightingale hospitals.

I think at this stage of the campaign and in a critical timing as we hear more cases and deaths, we need to lobby the government for more PPE for staff in all front-line jobs and introduction of community testing. This is something I am sure Mary Seacole would be doing also especially with her first-hand experience of fighting cholera.

Please support this petition for an independent public inquiry on why so many BAME front line staff and the community are experiencing greater impact of covid-19.

Let's build this petition and still the lobby government around their commitment to equality and diversity and ensuring that Mary Seacole and other BAME sheroes are recognised in the national narrative of this country and recognition in future health and care buildings.

Please be safe and look after yourself.

Best Wishes
Patrick Vernon OBE
