Hi all, last spring (in 2013) more than 500 of you signed this petition to stop the conversion of Danehy's soccer fields to artificial (plastic) turf. The City went ahead and turfed two fields (#1 and #2) anyway, leaving only a single field (#3) as grass -- #4 was turfed several years ago. The City now plans to replace the very last Danehy soccer field with plastic, with no public discussion. Please help stop this from happening. Now that three of the four fields are turf, usage of the grass field will be significantly reduced. Perhaps it can withstand that use just fine. No one has even asked the question. And a process objection: why has the City not convened hearings on whether conversion to turf is a good idea? And finally: it cost more than 1.5 million dollars to convert two fields to turf last year. Should Cambridge really spend 750,000 dollars to solve a problem (field overuse) that might no longer exist? Please ask your fellow citizens to sign if they haven't already. Thanks.
