On Wednesday 15th November 2023, our MP, Jon Ashworth made a decision that is not only disappointing but unacceptable. At a time when the Palestinian people are suffering grievous human rights violations under international law due to Israel's actions, Mr. Ashworth's failure to vote for an immediate ceasefire is a blatant disregard of his moral duty and the views of the people of Leicester South that have voted him in. His inaction on such a critical vote has contributed to the ongoing suffering and death of countless innocent civilians, including children whose innocence and lives are being cruelly snatched away.
This choice by Mr. Ashworth to prioritise his shadow ministerial responsibilities over the urgent need to stop this violence is a betrayal of our core values as constituents and as muslims - It cannot and should not be overlooked or excused, given the tragic loss of life of the palestinian people and children.
I urge each member of our community to respond with a heightened sense of urgency and action. We must intensify our efforts in sharing and supporting our petition. Our goal is to not only gather signatures but to make a bold statement that indifference and inaction in the face of human suffering are intolerable by our elected representatives. We stand together in our fight for justice and human rights, and we will be relentless in our pursuit of peace and safety for all affected.

With Jon Ashworth abstaining on important vote calling for an ceasefire in Gaza, it’s time the Muslim community in Leicester reject him as our representative. He does not share our values or beliefs that Palestinians lives matter more than his party line or shadow ministerial career.
Sign this petition to call on Central Mosque and other islamic institutions/organisations to cut ties with him, to show that Leicester’s Muslims are not with him if he is not with us.
