Fred Bercovitch, a wildlife conservation biologist with more than 20 years of experience in giraffe research, attended the press conference and pointed out that the source of the 18 endangered reticulated giraffes purchased by Sanli Wanpi zoo in Eswatini, Africa not only has the potential to be involved in the international illegal wildlife trade, but this decision might also accelerate the extinction of reticulated giraffes; at the same time, Wanpi zoo's policy of collecting rare and exotic animals, despite animal welfare standards, is not only detrimental to conservation, but also against the values of modern zoos.

In addition, Fred Bercovitch described the conservation implications of bringing endangered reticulated giraffes from Africa to Sanli Wanpi Zoo in Taiwan as akin to exporting 18 endangered Formosan black bear from Taiwan to Africa. This analogy can be applied to any country's endangered animals. If you can't accept the export of your home country's endangered animals to other countries simply for the sake of display and profit, then you shouldn never support Sanlih Wanpi zoo's insensitive behavior that is hazardous to wildlife conservation .
