Progress Update + Contact Stan Cho's Office Asking for Evidence of Repayment!
Hi everyone, thank you for signing the petition. In total, including our in-person petition signings at various locations in Willowdale, we have a total of 575 signatures to present to our elected provincial officials regarding MPP Stan Cho's behaviour. Out of that total, 161 people from Willowdale have signed this petition.
News keeps coming out about how the political party currently in charge of the provincial government chooses to use their budgets that are partly funded by taxpayer paid per-vote subsidies on questionable expenses. In the case of Stan Cho, he charged his riding association for airfare and hotels used for trips outside of Ontario, expensive restaurants in Toronto, a vehicle rental from "Top Limo", and Blue Jays games. [1] Recently, there was news that the party spent $3k on a trip to Jamaica to surveil their political opposition. [2] When I think about politicians using my tax dollars, this isn't what most people would have in mind.
After the news that Ontario government MPPs were encouraged to use public money on accommodations in downtown Toronto, Global News reported that "while Stan Cho said he has repaid all $16,000 in hotel expenses, the premier’s office has yet to provide evidence of that payment" on July 22nd. [3] Stan Cho's office has not issued a statement providing additional evidence to prove that a repayment was made. I also do not see any evidence of repayment on Stan Cho's expense disclosure on the Legislative Assembly of Ontario website. [4]
Please write a quick email to Stan Cho's office or call his office to ask for evidence that they have made the repayment. As a show of good faith and to reestablish trust with their constituents, they should be eager to volunteer this information and the silence from them is disappointing.
