Call for Review of 10-Year Sentence in Fatal Drunk Driving Case
The issue
We are calling for a review of the 10-year sentence handed down to the obstetrician Rhys Bellinge convicted of causing the death of a young woman while driving under the influence of alcohol.
This case has deeply impacted the community. Many believe that a 10-year sentence does not adequately reflect the seriousness of choosing to drive intoxicated and causing a preventable loss of life.
We respectfully urge the appropriate authorities to review this sentence and to consider whether current sentencing laws for drink-driving causing death are sufficient to ensure justice, accountability, and deterrence.
Families deserve to feel that the justice system treats the loss of a loved one with the utmost seriousness.
