Now we have two council members in a possible pecuniary interest (conflict of interest) who refuse to provide the legal opinion they should have gotten to prove they were allowed to vote on matters that may financially benefit them directly.
Our Council gets to decide what complaints about them are valid. Until Council is not able to police themselves, nothing will change. Their proposed changes to their code of conduct give only the illusion of a way for the public and City employees to complain about council misconduct. Because Council still managed the complaint process, and there is no opportunity to appeal their decisions, there is not the required impartiality and neutrality involved to ensure the taxpayers have a voice in holding our council accountable. Right now we just see them holding each other accountable which clearly doesn't work. I would venture a guess it's not worked for previous council, nor future either.
