In Massachusetts, rape survivors can have their rape kits destroyed only six months.This means survivors must traumatically call in every six months just to keep the forensic evidence of their rapes viable for report. Judge Persky's disturbing ruling in the Brock Turner case is an example of how our legal system fails survivors. I have been working with the non-profit Rise to pass a bill which would protect rape kits in the state for fifteen years, discontinuing the harrowing cycle that exists today and signing into law a basic human rights. We urgently need support.
