Dear friends,
On February 10th, 2017, Governor Jerry Brown declared a Major Disaster for the State of California and officially requested assistance from the federal government as allowed by the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act. The reason for the declaration is not Climate Change but the catastrophic Atmospheric Rivers powered by Climate Change, that has been pummeling the State. One notorious effect of these storms have been damage to the Oroville Dam’s main and auxiliary spillways that caused the evacuation of 200,000 Californians who are now back in their towns but in state of alert in case the spillways have grater damage and the water pours out of control.
This is an opportunity to remind Governor Brown that the real Major Disaster is Climate Change and unless he Declares Climate Change a Major Disaster, California will continue having an insufficient and inadequate response to the causes and effects of Climate Change. He has the power to change history for the better.
So, I am asking you again to call or e-mail the governor asking him to act NOW.
Call Governor Jerry Brown at 916-445-2841 today, Wednesday 2/22/17 through Monday 2/27/17, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Pacific Time, or email him using this link

PLEASE ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO ALSO CONTACT GOVERNOR JERRY BROWN.
Here is a suggested script:
Governor Jerry Brown: I am a signer of the petition “California Governor: Declare Climate Change A Major Disaster Before It’s Too Late”.
Your recent Major Disaster Declaration due to the catastrophic events from the extreme precipitation in California must remind you that Climate Change is the culprit of extreme weather events such as the ones we are experiencing in California.
You must heed our demand to exercise your power as governor to Declare Climate Change A Major Disaster immediately. This Declaration is imperative for California to have the focus and massive investments necessary to deal with the causes and the effects of Climate Change. We must lead the world to really act on Climate Change before it’s too late and, in the process, retain much sovereignty for California.
Do not doubt that your call or e-mail will make a difference. Your message may be the final support the Governor needs to issue the Declaration.
Thank you for being in this cause with me.
Love to you all,
Jorge
P. S. I have attached an article about the Major Disaster Declaration for California that includes a link to the letter to President Trump asking him to do the same at the federal level (Trump agreed)
