Petition updateStop the Deaths of Chuckwagon Horses at the Calgary StampedeCalgary Chuckwagon Races 2020

The Calgary Stampede will still continue it’s deadly horse chuckwagon races in 2020.

However, there is some good news. The disqualified chuckwagon driver from 2019, Chad Harden, will not be attending next year’s chuckwagon races. He is, of course, very upset with the decision. I believe this disqualification is the only improvement we have seen so far from last year! At the very least this dangerous, careless driver will not have the ability to injure or kill any more horses at the Calgary Stampede. (Although, sadly he will still be able to compete elsewhere...)

As per the linked article:

“The Calgary Stampede has also promised to conduct a “thorough review” of chuckwagon safety before next year’s races, after six horses died throughout the 2019 Rangeland Derby, making it the deadliest edition of the event in almost a decade.

But the timeline and scope of that review have also not yet been made public. Barnes said the review is “ongoing.”

“Unfortunately, I can’t put a timeline on the process. It’s important for us to ensure it’s thorough and as such, we haven’t placed time restrictions on it,” she said in an email.

“It’s important to note we review all of our programming annually, and that process is generally carried out through the fall and winter.””

We will continue to fight to end this deadly “sport”. Our love is for the horses and not for those that believe risking their lives is acceptable!
