My contact in the media just shared that, from what she understands, Calgary Housing is still going to allow us to smoke. Either they’ll provide designated smoking areas or follow the city bylaw, which permits smoking 4 meters away from doors and windows. That’s what they keep telling her.

So here’s where we stand:

✅ If you live in an apartment building, designated smoking areas should be provided.

✅ If you live in a townhouse or other non-apartment unit, things stay as they are — with the city bylaw being the only rule.

This is what we’ve been demanding.

This is what housing tenants deserve.

And now… we’re right there.

BUT — and this is important —

It’s not official until it’s OFFICIAL.

Until Calgary Housing tells us directly — and until we receive updated letters and communication confirming this — we’re staying right here on this hill.

We still need your voices.

We still need your signatures.

We still need your strength.

Because this fight isn’t just for today.

This is about setting a precedent.

This is about protecting autonomy and dignity — for every low-income tenant, for every disabled person, for every single parent or senior who just wants the same rights as everyone else.
