 As of late September 2025, the official BYD app is still not fully operational for customers in Sri Lanka due to regional restrictions and regulatory issues
. While some users have found workarounds to download the app, it is not possible to register or connect a vehicle. 
 
Reasons for the delay
Regional limitations: Sri Lanka is not yet included in the list of officially supported countries in the BYD app. This prevents users from registering their vehicles and accessing the app's full functionality.

Regulatory hurdles:

The delay is reportedly linked to ongoing discussions with local regulatory authorities. All necessary documentation has been submitted by the authorized distributor, but the issue is described as being "beyond their control".

Carrier partnership:

The distributor, John Keells CG Auto, is reportedly working with a telecommunications provider to enable the app, with one source suggesting a timeline of "about 3 months" as of early July 2025. 
 
Steps taken by customers
Online petition: In August 2025, a petition was started on Change.org by frustrated BYD owners in Sri Lanka. (That's us) It requests that John Keells CG Auto and BYD headquarters provide a clear timeline for the app's activation.

Community discussion:

There is an active online discussion among BYD owners in Sri Lanka, primarily on Facebook, where they share experiences and potential workarounds, though these are often unsuccessful. 
 
Current status and outlook
As of August 2025, the app remained unusable in Sri Lanka, as confirmed by Facebook posts from owners.

A post from July 4, 2025, on a Facebook group claimed the app was operational, but subsequent comments suggest this was either incorrect or only a temporary development.

There is no official activation timeline publicly available from either BYD or John Keells CG Auto.
