Please do not terminate Bus No.7

Please do not terminate Bus No.7

The Issue

Bus Eireann, has been providing public transportation services connecting all major cities and towns in Ireland.  Carrick on Suir, is a close-knitted residential community that relies on Bus Eireann services for all their transport needs.  A recent announcement made by Bus Eireann indicating that the company will be terminating bus No. 7 - a service that connects Carrick on Suir to Dublin, and this service will cease sometime in the month of April 2015.  This recent announcement had brought much anguish and despair to Carrick on Suir residents.

A working group was set up by a few dedicated and passionate individuals to launch a petition to make an appeal to Bus Eireann to reconsider this drastic decision.  The termination of Bus No.7 will bring about a longer commute for passengers heading to Dublin and all the other smaller towns along the way.  The impact of such a decision will result in hospital appointments being harder to meet, the most vulnerable of our society losing their independence, our elderly losing their bit of freedom that comes with their free bus pass and third level students losing a safe and reliable form of transport.  Apart from Carrick on Suir, residents from Kilsheelan will also be affected.  This group is working alongside with other residential groups set up with the aim of making an appeal to Bus Eireann.

The group have also secured the support of Mr. Seamus Healy TD to help intervene on our behalf with the aim of appealing to Bus Eireann to reverse such a decision.  A survey is currently on-going to gather some basic facts and figures to give an indication on how the community had come to rely so heavily on this bus service.   Termination of Bus No.7 will have a deep social and financial impact to a close –knitted community.

We hope you will join us to save Bus No.7 by signing our online petition where we will be able to present to Bus Eireann some facts and figures to support our appeal in saving Bus No.7.  Bus Eireann had cited that it is no longer profitable for them to ply the route taken on by Bus No.7.

We have to save Bus No.7 before it is too late.
