Increase the penalty of illegal fishers in the Philippines

The Issue

The Philippines is rich in marine life due to its geography, and fishing is one of the sources of income of the people especially fishermen and companies that commercialize fish-based products in the market. Fishing must be done during seasons and should be in moderation when not. However, the population of marine animals is at risk because of some cases of fishermen involved in illegal fishing. The goal of this petition is to help stop the illegal fishing operations by increasing the penalties of those who violate the Republic Act No. 10654 because it may affect a lot of people, the economy, and may harm the environment. This will be beneficial to environmentalists, the Philippine government and the marine life in general to preserve our resources and prevent the possible extinction of rare fishes and other marine organisms that are currently in danger because of the insensitivity, cruelty, greed, and carelessness of humans.
