The Biodome’s south face will showcase gradated transparent solar panels. Clear ones up to 45° will let in low angle winter sun. Above 45° the springtime sun gets partly absorbed by the 35% opaque solar panels. Above 60° the 70% opaque panels absorb the summer sun's heat and intensity for more electricity.
Different manufactures’ product lines will give real time energy output for visitors to compare, and promotes these green technologies for wider use.
The Transparent Luminescent Solar Collector (TLSC) is a MSU innovation in development that directs UV and infrared light across the panel to edge solar cells while letting the visible light pass through.
