Important Tanglewood Update: The County’s Decision & Our Path Forward
Dear Neighbors and Tanglewood Advocates,
Over 730 of us stepped forward with an uncompromising goal: protect the Tanglewood corridor so our public green space remains open, green, and preserved for Palmetto Bay families—not abandoned or lost to neglect.
Here is where the situation stands today:
Miami-Dade County has formally declined a full property transfer to the Village, citing the need for ongoing Florida Power & Light (FPL) utility maintenance access.
While career politicians might treat the County’s position as an excuse to walk away, our community knows better:
• FPL maintenance access does NOT prevent a linear park. Across South Florida, successful linear parks safely coexist within active utility corridors through standard Joint-Use Recreational & Maintenance Agreements.
• Section 10.2 of our Village Charter strictly mandates the protection of single-family residential neighborhoods from outside negative impacts. That means any path forward must include mandatory native landscape buffers and security setbacks to protect adjoining homeowners’ privacy.
• Our tax dollars should fund green spaces, neighborhood buffers, and core community infrastructure—not endless Town Hall infighting and outside legal battles.
With the November 3 general election approaching, Palmetto Bay faces a critical leadership decision. We do not need more political grandstanding or empty promises. We need steady, competent leadership capable of sitting down with Miami-Dade County and FPL to execute a binding Joint-Use Agreement that protects utility maintenance while securing a permanent linear park for our residents.
Before you cast your vote by mail or head to the early voting polls, ask every candidate for Mayor:
1. Do you support negotiating a tripartite Joint-Use Agreement between the Village, the County, and FPL to secure Tanglewood as a protected linear green space?
2. Will you strictly enforce Charter Section 10.2 to guarantee that adjacent homeowners receive dedicated landscape screening and privacy buffers?
3. Will you cut wasteful administrative overhead and redirect those funds directly toward frontline park maintenance and neighborhood enhancements?
Let’s keep our green spaces green and hold Village Hall accountable to residents first.
