Hi Folks, Please Hit the Share button on this Petition...We just wanted to share the new image and give a proper explanation of the vision, this is the new combination image United Scarborough - Residents Action Group released at the Town Residents Meeting on Monday 20th Oct, this week (Big Thanks to Andy Hylton for working on it so quickly ahead of the meeting for US, its a basic image for now to give you all an idea, a flavour of what we could have!)...We are calling this image 'The Compromise' as its a combination of what everyone wants, we have been inputting Residents led suggestions over the last 2 years (since we started the Petition that now has well over 3,000 Residents signatures (digital +paper signatures💪 keep signing and sharing btw, it's still active and growing!)...the new image comprises of semi-circle ampitheatre style steps at the Queen Street end, entering a level area, with a round coloured floor section in front of the steps as a live performance area ('The Round in the Square', as a thankful and proud nod to our world renowned playwright Sir Alan Ayckbourn)...and new, now the onl, authority Town Center loos, discretely positioned underneath the steps🥰...we have also kept the Shakespeare (re-invented into a Cafe/Bistro and rear outside seating to service the Square, Homebird and Indian Restaurant, this will give a very handsome, sustainable immediate revenue rental income to Council, along with the loos, pitch space rentals and live performances space on the Square...this vision would prospectively also open other cash funding streams with Art Culture, Lotto and Community Funding, also keeping the artist in situ with other empty retail units within the immediate area, so all needs are accommodated...so we now have ticked all the boxes and requirements of our NYCouncils etc...and We, the Scarborough Residents don't have to face another big, bland replacement, with more of the same... it will open up the area to natural light and show off our historical architectural gems (Boyes and Market Hall) and can make our Full-sized Town Square happen! for all of us to enjoy, so let's create and build something really incredible for our Town. We had a great turn out and positive participation at the Town Residents Meeting with most of our Scarborough Town Council and some North Yorkshire Councillors in attendance too. The new design was extremely well received by all...we are now working with them to set up an 'Asset of Community Value' to protect against any development and raising the cash to re-purchase the building, as the original buy-back deal was nullified on devolution of old SBC, we believe and now the building is up for Auction on 30th October 2025. We are still fighting and will continue to fight for our Scarborough Town Square...but with the sale day nearly upon us, we are all keeping our fingers crossed that we can complete the paperwork in time. We will update you again when we know more...Please keep Sharing the Petition!
Many Thanks and Kindest Regards to All from US Group Committee, Admin, Volunteers and Resident Members. x
