Happy Sunday, everyone!
Please forgive the last-minute urgency of this email, but we think you’ll understand once you see what’s at stake.
🚨 The City Council is set to decide on the drive-through component of a proposed Dunkin’ on Fishkill Ave in Beacon. This decision will shape our streets, safety, and community for years to come.
Why Say NO to the Drive-Through?
❌ More Traffic & Safety Risks – Drive-throughs don’t just add congestion—they make our streets more dangerous. More curb cuts mean more conflict points between cars, cyclists, and pedestrians. A single fast-food drive-through can generate hundreds of additional car trips per day.
❌ More Pollution & Idling – Drive-throughs increase emissions, harming air quality and public health. Is Beacon committed to its climate goals, or not?
❌ Bad for Local Business – Car-centric design hurts small businesses. Studies show walkable, people-friendly streets generate more economic activity than car-dominated ones. Why cater to chains when we should be supporting a thriving local economy?
❌ A Step Backward for Beacon – The Fishkill Ave Concepts Committee recommended NO drive-throughs. The goal is a safer, less car-dependent corridor—let’s not undo that progress.
🚶♂️ Cities across the country are banning or restricting drive-throughs for these exact reasons. They bring traffic headaches, hurt walkability, and fail to serve communities in the long run.
