Remove Ann Murray as Chair and Member of the Broward School Board
Remove Ann Murray as Chair and Member of the Broward School Board
The Issue
Not only has Ann Murray used the offensive N-word at a public, work-related event, near her black employees, but she continuously shows and exemplifies all the traits we don't want in a public leader for education. She said a Hebrew charter school is "diverse" and "if black kids don't like kosher lunches, they can take a brown bag lunch!", in a "let them eat cake!" fashion. This school had only 3% African-Americans in a predominantly economically-challenged black/hispanic-majority district. There are many allegations of misappropriation of school funds, padding mileage on expense reports, etc. And, she recently chose not to reappoint two dedicated volunteers to the Diversity Committee, with no notice or explanation, because she didn't like their publicizing concerns in a school within her district. She rarely speaks at school board meetings with any positive input and is rarely seen in the communities within her district, unless it's a political or fund raising event by lobbyists or builders. With Ann as Chair, the parents and community members, especially from the minority population, will all be afraid to participate or be vocal; thereby, impeding transparency and progress to improve our schools.
