Brookhaven Calabro Airport is an uncontrolled airport located in Shirley NY. This airport is home to Sky dive, Flight Schools, Glider planes, Banner Planes and Helicopter training as well as any pilot who wishes to utilize the airport for personal use or private flight training. 2017 was a year that had a documented number of flights of 59,417. An uncontrolled airport is an airport without a tower not an airport absolved of any rules or regulations however there are no rules or regulations at this airport and no enforcement of the FAA regulations. Per FAA FAR91.119 Minimum safe altitudes states that no person may operate an aircraft lower than 1,000 feet over a residential area. We all know that these planes are not 1,000 feet over our homes. Per the FAA since it is a town owned airport it is up to the town to create the rules and regulations. I personally have requested the town to make rules and regulations as well as enforce them but to date none have been put in effect only requests of the pilots to be neighborly. The noise pollution generating from these low flying planes affects the quality of life of the residents surrounding the airport and the exhaust from the low flying planes is causing air pollution. Don't let this be another horrific season with loud low flying planes because there are no rules and regulations. Demand the town to create and enforce rules and regulations to accommodate for the growing number of flights as well as the diversity of planes utilizing the airport. Our Safety and Quality of life matters!
