Yesterday we held our first protest. Thank you to everyone who showed up! We counted over 80 people, with more watching from the sidelines. Thank you especially to Brock Pride for making several signs, MSA, ASA, SLSA, Masjid Al Noor, 905Palestine, and many others for sharing and fighting against injustice. Thank you as well to campus security for ensuring our safety. And thank you to everyone who passed by, asked questions, and signing the petition—you are helping us push this movement forward.
This protest was just the start, an introduction to a much larger conversation. What we accomplished was shattering the narrative: that Brock students are apathetic, that we don’t care about BUSU. We showed that when our rights to representation are threatened, we rise up. This is bigger than any one person.
Right now, BUSU staff, execs, and a handful of board members are clinging to power so desperately because they know their control is so unnatural. Their authority is brittle. The longer they resist students in favour of democracy, the weaker their grip becomes. But unlike them, we are not afraid.
If anyone in BUSU has the courage to side with students and fight for a union that actually serves us, then speak out against the corruption and take action today.
We’ve already gained 400 signatures in just 4 days, and we are only growing stronger. Please, take just 30 seconds hare this petition wherever you can: post it to your Instagram story, Snapchat, text friends, email classmates. Every single signature brings us closer to tearing down their false authority and building the union students deserve.
Right now, thousands of students at Brock don’t even realize they’ve already joined our cause. BUSU right now, thrives on ignorance and apathy. Every single person who hears about this, or learns of what BUSU has been doing, pushes our line forward.
Hold BUSU accountable. We won’t stop until every student at Brock has a student union they are proud of.
Thank you!! More BIG updates coming very soon!
