Removal of the fatal Bechers Brook at Aintree racecourse
The Issue
Each year in the grand national, horses are unnecessarily injured or even killed and euthanised after accidents involving the notorious fence Becher’s brook. It is especially dangerous for racehorses because of its size, angle and staggering 6ft9in drop on the landing size, causing many horses to lose their footing and injuring themselves, often fatally. In the time it has been jumped in the grand national, it has taken the lives of 14 horses and injured way more. The racehorses lives should not be put at risk for the enjoyment of others, Becher’s Brook must not be a jump in the grand national any longer!
