Get Britain Out started this petition to The Rt Hon George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer

The European Union (EU) has demanded the British Government ban tax duty exemption for Britain’s historic cider manufacturers who produce less than 12,000 pints a year. This means many ciders would become more expensive, no longer benefiting from the current ‘Duty-Free’ status.

The current rules allow roughly 380 of Britain’s 500+ small scale cider producers to thrive here, allowing 60% of Britons to enjoy this national drink on a regular basis.

The EU wants to impose a ‘one-size fits everyone’ rule on all alcohol producers - regardless of the need to support Britain’s cider producers.  If forced to pay this duty, many will be driven out of business, costing jobs, harming the countryside and reducing the choice of ciders available cider lovers. Those which survive will be forced to increase prices.

Get Britain Out objects to this new duty being imposed on small cider producers and we will present this petition to the Chancellor, George Osborne shortly before the EU’s deadline expires in two months’ time.

We the undersigned and Get Britain Out demand the British Government supports small British cider producers and categorically REJECTS this latest EU diktat to strip them of their current tax exempt status. Britain’s cider producers and British consumers MUST come first.
