Dear Supporters

I hope you are as well as possible.

We are supporting a campaign over this weekend by Lesbian and Gays support the Migrants. The 12th of October marks the 10th anniversary of Jimmy Mubenga's death on a British Airways flight whilst being deported. Our hearts are with Jimmy's family and invite you to take part in the online actions set out below.

Lesbian and Gays Support the Migrants say;

We are running a campaign over this weekend asking  England Rugby to use its close relationship with British Airways to call on them to stop participating in the brutal and racist hostile environment. This weekend marks the 10th anniversary of the death of Jimmy Mubenga, who was killed while being deported on a British Airways flight.

We are joining migrant rights groups in participating in a weekend of action to oppose the hostile environment by hosting a small, socially distanced event outside Twickenham Stadium.

Last year Kenneth Macharia, a member of an LGBT rugby team, was threatened with deportation by the Home Office. Him and his team mates had to launch a campaign to challenge the deportation which could have seen him forcibly sent to a country where his life would have been at risk. We cannot allow England Rugby to remain silent on the role of their sponsor and official airline in deportations.

We are asking organisations and individuals to support the action by participating from home by taking one or more of the following actions:

Tweet one of the following messages to England Rugby:
“Say no to deportations - @EnglandRugby give @BritishAirways the red card! @Twickenhamstad #stopdeportations #SolidarityKnowsNoBorders”

Hey @EnglandRugby – do you know your sponsor profits from deportations? We’d love you to comment on this and ask BA to stop propping up the Hostile Environment #SKNB

Dear @EnglandRuby @twickenham stadium – it’s 10 years since Jimmy was killed on your official airline’s flight. Time to #StopDeportations #SKNB

It’s time @EnglandRugby took a stand against deportations. Seeing the logo of the company that flew #JimmyMubenga to his death at games is an insult to migrants #SKNB

Take a picture of yourself with a Red Card and send it to us at lgsmigrants@gmail.com / @lgsmigrants/facebook.com / @lgsmigrants

Thanks for your support.

Rest in freedom Jimmy Mubenga.

Regards
