Dear Supporter Thank you for responding quickly to the request in last evening's update and calling on British Airways to stop the deportation of nine women to Nigeria last night on flight BA0083. They were bombarded with messages and complaints and disgracefully responded to many complaining on twitter with the following standard response; "There are no deportees travelling on this evening’s BA083, however like all UK airlines we are legally obliged to comply with UK deportation law. We hope you are well. " I and others responded pointing out that this was not correct as Virgin have made the decision to stop. Of the nine women impacted, after keeping them for the 24 hours before in an isolation wing at Yarls Wood detention centre, the nine were driven around for hours, told they were booked on the British Airways flight, 5 if the women were then taken back to YarlsWood and 4 were put on a bus and told they were to be transported to Birmingham where they would be placed on a charter flight. Due to the women expressing their distress, the bus driver refused to continue and stopped the bus. Subsequently we received a report that one woman was taken off the bus but that the remaining three were placed in a Titan charter flight, which is an air carrier that mass deportations are regularly made on. One of the women deported is a lesbian and no consideration has been given by the Home Office, to the dangers & risk to her life she now faces. Given the women were deported on a Titan flight, indicates that there would have been many more deported on it. People facing imminent deportation are already very distressed, the process of placing people in isolation, shackling them,l and disorientating them is a deliberate attempt to confuse and traumatise. It is inhumane. Thank you for making a stand. Please share with me any responses you receive from British Airways to your complaints which are different to the standard response quoted above and please keep sharing the petitition. Best Regards Zita Zita Holbourne; National Chair, BARAC UK
