Save the Sugar Loaf Public house

Save the Sugar Loaf Public house
The Issue
The sugar Loaf is a longstanding community pub serving the local residents of Easton and surrounding areas. A proper, traditional public house situated on St Marks Road.
It has a diverse clientele of mainly local working class residents, new arrivals to the area and a strong sense of community spirit. Under new management since September the Loaf has been alive and buzzing in the community with regulars and many new faces, providing quality beers, live music, darts and pool and most of all, a comfortable, relaxed traditional pub, something quite rare these days.
Despite the efforts of the current licensee to secure a long term lease on the premises, the brewery who own the building are seeking to lease the property to a chain company who have multiple pubs across Bristol, including one very profitable outfit just two streets away from the Loaf.
The plan is to completely gut the Sugar Loaf of its original Edwardian features and character, renovating it into an identical clone two streets away.
In an area where families and local people are struggling with sky rocketing rental prices and high demand for housing this is simply a further extension of big business owners trampling over local people who built this community to what it is now, simply to make more money.
This is one of OUR last havens untouched by gentrification. St Marks road has already 6 flourishing restaurants/eateries so why do we need yet another gastro pub?
What we need is OUR local pub, which we love and cherish. Sincerely the sugar loaf and it’s regulars.
