Calling Marvin Rees, the Mayor of Bristol to action

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has signed this petition. It is vital that the contempt felt by many towards the statue is used to create a better platform to recognise and appreciate the victims of the slave trade, and I am so grateful so many others feel the same way.

I am currently in the process of writing a letter to Marvin Rees, Mayor of Bristol, to call him to action. I know there has been a parallel petition running alongside mine that is looking to commemorate Paul Stephenson specifically in the fallen statue's place, although I believe Stephenson deserves his own statue, and I shall say such in my letter to Mr Rees. I will of course be posting another update should I hear anything back, and will keep pressing the City Council until we have a definitive reply.

Please may I request that, as supporters of this petition, you continue the conversation and keep sharing the link within your circles. The fight does not stop until the victims of the slave trade and modern day racism are recognised and the perpetrators are held accountable to the best of our abilities.
