Update: Action Needed — Share With Neighbors and Email Local Decision Makers

Last night at the Del Aire community meeting with Supervisor Holly Mitchell and her staff, a question was raised regarding why nearby communities along the 405 Freeway—such as the Wiseburn —have received significant beautification improvements, including the walking path along La Cienega Boulevard, while Del Aire has not seen similar investment. Unfortunately, no clear explanation was provided as to why these improvements were prioritized in one area of the same supervisorial district while not extended to ours.

 

Through further research, I discovered that the Wiseburn walking path and surrounding beautification project was a Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation initiative, completed in coordination with other county and state partners. This confirmation is important because it shows that these types of projects are not only possible in our region, but are already proven successful within the same area we share.

 

While our goal is absolutely to see Del Aire receive the same level of investment, landscaping, lighting, and walking path improvements as Wiseburn, the heart of this effort is not just beautification—it is safety. Specifically, the safety and security of the children and families who walk daily along Tahoe Avenue and through the 120th Street underpass to reach school.

 

This includes students attending Del Aire Elementary, Wiseburn Middle School, Da Vinci Connect, and the Da Vinci High Schools. These are critical pedestrian routes for families throughout our shared community, and they deserve to be clean, well-lit, maintained, and safe.

 

I am asking residents to please continue supporting this effort by signing and sharing the petition with neighbors, and by respectfully reaching out to the agencies responsible for our community.

 

Coordinated community pressure is often what leads to real action and inter-agency collaboration.

Together, we can ensure that all children in our area have safe and dignified routes to school, regardless of which side of the 405 they live on.
