Dear all, I thought you were due an update on this petition. I have been continually nagging about it rest assured!

The new mast at Plas y Gors is already working for the emergency services (and BT/ EE customers for emergency use ie 999 calls only).

I wrote to the people who were putting the hardware on the mast and it would appear that this is completed.

Baroness Lloyd (Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Dept. for Science, Innovation and Technology) said that the mast was formally handed over to the Mobile Network Operators (MNO) in Feb 2026 for operation under the Shared Rural Network (SRN) scheme and that the expectation is that the MNO’s have up to 12 months to make a mast commercially active.

I am still pushing for our mast to be prioritised for the following reasons:

#1 Safety- one of the recommendations from the recent Coroners Prevention of Future Deaths Report into the 3 tragic deaths at the Waterfalls is to improve mobile signal in the area. The recipients of the report include the heads of Powys Council, BBNP etc who are required to respond by early summer. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cvgnnv4449ko

#2 Road traffic - visitors can’t use GPS and as a result get lost whilst driving and walking in the area

#3 Post Office services - we were promised a mobile van after the Post Office closed but this requires a mobile signal to work

#4 Smart meters - residents cannot take advantage of cheaper electricity tariffs without smart meters which require mobile signal

#5 Govt Emergency Alert System - this does not work without a mobile signal.
