Dear friends and fellow cat advocates,

We have some important and hopeful news to share: New Jersey Senate Bill S261 has officially passed the NJ Senate. This is a major milestone for humane, proactive cat welfare policy in our state; special thanks to Senator Brian Stack for his leadership in helping this bill advance in the Senate.

S261 now moves to the New Jersey Assembly, where it must pass through committee and receive a full Assembly vote before it can become law. While Senate passage shows strong momentum, Assembly support is essential to keep this bill moving forward.

As people working on the ground every day — through TNR, rescue, fostering, and community care — you know how urgent this issue is. Humane, preventative solutions like those supported by S261 are critical to:

Reducing the number of cats living outdoors
Supporting overburdened rescues and caregivers
Helping municipalities adopt long-term, cost-effective approaches
How you can help right now:

• Email or call your Assembly representatives and ask them to support and advance S261
• Share your personal experience — your voice as a caregiver, volunteer, or rescuer truly matters
• Spread the word to other advocates who may not yet be aware the bill is moving

This is one of those moments where collective action really counts. Thank you for everything you do for cats across New Jersey — and for taking a few minutes to help push this important bill forward.
