Hi everyone,
I wanted to share some encouraging news from our petition for Overdose Prevention Centers (OPCs) in Monroe County.
County Legislator Albert Blankley responded to my outreach and has formally added his name in support of this petition. In his own words:
“I fully support the development of an Overdose Prevention Center in Monroe County and have publicly advocated for us to explore it since 2022… As I am able I will participate and support those efforts.”
He also offered to join us on a Sunday at Recovery All Ways to talk more about OPCs, our work on the ground, and the status of efforts with other leaders.
This is important for a few reasons:
- It shows that elected officials are willing to go on record in support of OPCs.
- It gives us a concrete example to point to when other leaders say “no one is asking for this” or “this isn’t politically possible.”
- It proves that your signatures and outreach are working.
Now we need to build on this.
How you can help right now
If you’ve already signed, thank you. Please take one more step:
- Talk to 3 people (friends, family, coworkers, fellow congregants) about why OPCs matter and ask them to sign this petition.
- Share this petition on your social media and mention that we already have a Monroe County Legislator on record in support.
- Contact your own representatives (City Council, County Legislature, State Assembly/Senate, and Congressman) and tell them you support OPCs in Monroe County, and expect them to do the same.
Every signature, every conversation, and every email helps push this from “idea” to reality.
Thank you for standing with our neighbors who use drugs, those in recovery, and the families who’ve already lost loved ones. We’re not done.
