Dear Friends of Wild Horses and Burros, 2015 is here and we have a lot of work to do. Have you read this? http://trib.com/news/state-and-regional/govt-and-politics/wyoming-grants-aim-to-boost-wild-horse-reasearch/article_c3b554c9-df27-5152-a834-4b8ef7c267ec.html The thought of more grants being shelled out to conduct more cruel research on native mares, foals, yearlings and studs in holding facilities and in the wild is beyond barbaric especially in this high tech age. Is this why the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) won't provide the wild captives in pens with shelter from the harsh elements? It's obvious they don't care to treat them humanely. These past days, captive wild horses and burros in pens have been subjected to below zero temperatures with harsh winds, snow and no access to shelter. In the wild they move to sheltered zones to weather out the storms. At the taxpayer funded facilities, they are not being cared for with the three basics in animal husbandry: food, shelter, water. Access to shelter is being denied despite offers to finance shelters and public outcry. Does the BLM, the State of Wyoming, the State of Nevada and elsewhere view the captives as disposable lab animals? Is it against the 1971 Free Roaming Wild Horse and Burro Protection Act to experiment on federally protected equids and kill them to explore their bodies for scientific "research"? It seems this has been going on since the BLM and the scientists started experimenting on wild horses for PZP fertility control and other brutal sterilizations back in the 70s but that's no excuse--we all weren't involved then. The greater international public, animal welfare and animal rights communities need to learn about this horrific abuse paid for with tax dollars, so please share this update widely on social media and via email. Ask people to meet with their representative and senator's aides requesting they intervene to bring shelter to the captives and immediately stop barbaric research on wild horses and burros now. The BLM and the Department of Interior answer to Congress so we need to go to their boss. Ask people living outside the United States to contact President Obama, embassies and the American Chamber of Commerce to request they stop cruel and barbaric research on America's wild horses and burros. Let them know tourists want to see the wild ones living in freedom in the wild and not be abused in captivity either. Please help get the word out to end the brutal torture of America's wild horses and burros. If we act quickly then together we can turn this around. Many blessings, Anne Anne Novak Executive Director www.ProtectMustangs.org Contact@ProtectMustangs.org
