Protect Mustangs

Many people don't know the truth about wild horses. They don't know they are native, underpopulated, cruelly rounded up, ripped from their families and forced to live in pens with no shade or shelter. They don't know that because of a drop in genetic diversity from all the roundups and removals, America's wild horses are in danger of dying out--especially due to climate change. Awareness This 4th of July you can bring awareness to the real Wild Horse Crisis by becoming a Walking Billboard like this: https://www.booster.com/july4mustangbillboard2016 This will open up conversations to help Save America's Wild Horses. Here are some of the hot issues to discuss: Fear Mongering to push for "disposal" The BLM is trying to fear monger elected officials into transferring federally protected wild horses out to states, counties, and government agencies as "work horses", etc. This is a ruse to rip away their protections and dispose of them. The BLM has inflated costs over 20 years to care for all the wild horses BLM's has torn off public land to profit from it. BLM claims it will cost a total of $1 Billion to care for all the wild horses currently held captive for the next 20 years. Curiously BLM makes a profit of more than $4 Billion every year and that number is growing! It's obvious the BLM is trying to avoid taking responsibility for their "costs" to make way more than $80 Billion in profit over the next 20 years. Let your elected officials know! Adoption Why isn't BLM providing better customer service when people want to adopt wild horses? Do they want the adoption program to fail so they can send them all to slaughter? We hear so many reports of people wanting to adopt but the BLM is making it a bad experience. People want a piece of the American West. They want to adopt wild horses--often in pairs. The adoption program needs a complete overhaul to get it working on a business model with excellent customer service. Is the BLM willing to make the commitment to excellence? Overpopulation It's a myth invented by those who want to exploit wild horse herd management areas for resources from fracking to mining to livestock grazing. Commercial livestock outnumbers wild horses on an average of 100 to 1. The truth is America's wild horse and burro herds are seriously underpopulated on vast acreage in the West. Sterilization Experiments Clearly the majority of the public is against horrible sterilization experiments. Only a few fringe, pro-cattle BLM support groups would like to see this happen to wild mares. Write your elected officials and go meet with them. Ask them to stop this before it's too late. There is a lot of information you are welcome to share found on our blog at www.ProtectMustangs.org. Enter "experiment" or "sterilization" in the search bar. Shade & Shelter In most facilities, captive wild horses are confined in pens (Video: https://www.facebook.com/ProtectMustangs/?fref=ts) and unable to move to cooler zones as they would in the wild. Please help this petition get to 100K signatures. Let's do it quickly! Then elected officials will know this issue matters to their constituents. Share it widely by email and on social media: https://www.change.org/p/bring-emergency-shelter-and-shade-to-captive-wild-horses-and-burros This is an election year and you will be heard more now than ever. It's time to Take Action! Meet with your elected officials and those running for office. Explain the truth and ask them to help stop Together we can turn this around!
