Momentum is building fast:

Today, Mountain Scene helped set the record straight — confirming that QLDC has actively pitched for international cricket at John Davies Oval, and will be pitching again for the 2026/27 season.
They acknowledged challenges remain, as QEC is a multi-use community venue, but cricket is firmly on their agenda.
New Zealand Cricket (NZC) told RNZ the Oval is “a venue of great natural beauty,” but noted the extra cost of scheduling games at QEC due to shared facilities. They confirmed they’re in ongoing dialogue with QLDC to explore cost-effective solutions.
Sir John Davies, after whom the Oval is named, said: “International cricket is one of the things Queenstown should be aiming to get. With the airport it’s easy for teams to get in and out… It’s a shame it’s not attracting top-class cricket at the moment.”
Alongside media coverage, I’ve also met with a QLDC Councillor and spoken with our local MP Joseph Mooney, who is keen to see progress.
👉 This shows why your support matters — the community voice is helping keep cricket in the spotlight, alongside Council, NZC, and local leaders.
