Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I'm touched that we have over 1000 signatures on our petition. Looking back at a summer that had more chaos and destruction than love, it's clear that our work is not yet done and more important than ever. Who could have imagined that the Trump Administration would illegally deploy federal troops in LA and DC? Who could have imagined that an American President would call the great city of Chicago a "hellhole"? Who could have imagined that international trade would be repeatedly attacked through spontaneous tariffs causing hard working people around the world to lose their jobs? Who could have imagined that the fate of our brave sisters and brothers in Ukraine would be discussed without President Zelensky at the table?
Traditional allies and new partners alike are being continually betrayed by the regime governing our neighbours to the South. Theatrics, misinformation, and violence have replaced the diplomacy and facts that have been the foundation for shared prosperity and peace.
UN Secretary General Guterrez said that "80 years ago, from the ashes of war, the world planted a seed of hope. One Charter, one vision, one promise: that peace is possible when humanity stands together". And he is right.
On the eve of the 80th Anniversary of the UN, it’s time for we the people to come together to restore that vision. Canada has always punched above its weight in foreign affairs. Canada is well-positioned to take a leadership role in uniting the world to "take it to the UN" and rein in the reckless aggression that has been let loose upon the world for too long. It is not too late to mobilize the General Assembly to stop the rising authoritarianism, protectionism, and violence that has run amok costing innocent people more than just their jobs, but their very lives from the scourge of war.
We don't have to just watch the rubble of destroyed cities on the news and do nothing. We don't have to stay silent as innocent women and children suffer and die through intentional cruelty. John F. Kennedy said, "One person can change the world, and everyone should try". Now is the time. It might seem small to sign and share a petition, but the pen is mightier than any sword. You can make a difference. We all can. An idea, a dream, cannot be bombed, shot, or starved. It lives on and grows by being shared. And the idea that we as humans care about each other and want peace and prosperity for everyone is one that will change the world. We don't have to take up arms to solve our problems. We can come together using diplomacy and human connection to fix this. Please share this idea, our dream, with your friends, family, and colleagues. Encourage them to sign and share so everyone can lay down their arms, protect innocent people, and take it to the UN.
Your friend,
Aziza
