As of 2026, the Buena Vista brand was retired since 2007. For example Disney phased out the Buena Vista brand back in April 2007, retiring its use in movie distribution and television. While Disney announced that the Star brand name is retired in the Latin American and Brazilian country, as a result Star Distribution reverted back to Buena Vista International with Playa de Lobos (Wolf Beach), as the first movie released under the revived Buena Vista International label. Also, Star Original Productions was being absorbed to the BVI label either.
And now, Disney and Buena Vista fans want to bring back Buena Vista as a separate American movie production company. Unlike its former American distributor Buena Vista Pictures Distribution from 1953 to 2007 and its Latin American and Brazilian distribution equivalent called Star Distribution which would later re-become the the revived Buena Vista International, the revived American-based movie production company Buena Vista will be producing produce future movies that are distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
Like other Disney-owned movie studios, Buena Vista will be a movie production company similar to 20th Century Studios, Searchlight Pictures, Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm, it will be a spiritual successor to the now-defunct labels Touchstone Pictures and Hollywood Pictures, respectively in terms of not only live-action family movies (particularly like they did with Turner & Hooch, Sister Act, While You Were Sleeping, Simon Birch and Confessions of a Shopaholic), but also terms of live-action, adult-oriented movies like they did originally with Touchstone Pictures and Hollywood Pictures, both of these now-retired labels which are owned by The Walt Disney Company.
As a result, Buena Vista is a subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios, a division of Disney Entertainment and it will be owned by The Walt Disney Company. The movie production company Buena Vista will be added soon from their lineup of respective Disney-owned studios like 20th Century Studios, Searchlight Pictures, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, Walt Disney Animation Studios, and Pixar Animation Studios. Six will become seven Disney-owned studios.
