The Issue

Over the years, I have heard many things about the iconic former Houston theme park AstroWorld  from my parents and others. According to them, it was a great place to have fun and brought out pride in the city. Unfortunately, it was closed down in 2005 due to decline in ticket sales. My goal with this petition is to bring back the park (or something similar) and make it better than ever so the city of Houston can have another place to go to when they want to have a fun experience and bring back a wonderful piece of the city’s culture at the same time.

My personal idea to make sure the park is built well and doesn’t end the same way the first one did is mainly by drastically changing the Houston rodeo. I understand that the rodeo is an important part of Houston culture, but my proposition is that the city takes the money used for this carnival and instead uses it to pay for the employees, maintenance, and construction of the park. However, I have come up with a compromise for the people who still want the rodeo. Instead, we would hold a week long music festival and livestock show in the theme park for those who would like that. All of the proceeds from this park would go to the city of Houston, and once again the employees and maintenance of the park (and if a company decides to step in, that company would receive a pay cut as well). Preferably, the park would be built in the old lot that AstroWorld was formerly in.

I’m not entirely sure how much the admission would cost and all that, but I do believe that not only would Houston be happier due to the inclusion of this park, but would also make more money that the current rodeo we have and would be a great decision to make as a whole for this beautiful city.

(not 100% sure how I’ll make this work since I’m not 18, but a bunch of other major cities have parks and we don’t, so might as well try)
