Bring a Shoprite Usave to Ottosdal
The Issue
I am a resident of Ottosdal, a small town in the North West province. For far too long, the issue of access to affordable groceries has been a burden on our community. As it stands, residents of Ottosdal have to travel over 40 kilometers to Wolmaransstad or 75 kilometers to Klerksdorp just to buy groceries from an affordable supermarket. The taxi fare for these journeys can cost us upwards of R100, adding an undue financial strain to families who are already struggling to make ends meet.
This is not only inconvenient, but it also makes everyday necessities inaccessible for many who cannot afford these additional travel costs. Our community is crying out for a local solution that will provide us with affordable food options and also boost our local economy.
We believe that the establishment of a Shoprite Usave in Ottosdal would be the answer to our prayers. A Shoprite Usave would not only bring affordable food to our town; it would also create much-needed job opportunities for our youth and help reduce unemployment rates in our area. In addition, having a supermarket right here in Ottosdal would encourage local economic growth and prevent our hard-earned money from leaving our community.
According to the latest population data, Ottosdal has a substantial enough resident base to support a budget-friendly supermarket. Other similar-sized towns in the region already benefit from having their own supermarkets, so why should Ottosdal be any different?
Shoprite, with its long-standing commitment to serving communities and fostering inclusive growth, is perfectly positioned to fill this gap. We urge the management of Shoprite to consider our plea seriously and take the necessary steps to establish a Shoprite Usave store in Ottosdal.
Join us in this call for change—a call for accessibility, affordability, and progress in Ottosdal. Help us lift this unnecessary burden from our shoulders and provide our town with the basic service it deserves. Please sign this petition to show your support and help make our voice heard.
