As of 5/28 a representative from JEDCO did provide me with updated information on how they are collaborating to help bring a grocery store to our area and provided with the updated Trade Area Study in our area. After reviewing the 2023 Trade Area Study commissioned by JEDCO, concerns were raised directly with the organization regarding the methodology, completeness, and relevance of the information presented. Key concerns include: The use of an out-of-state consulting firm instead of local experts familiar with the community A limited competitive analysis that primarily highlights Westbank stores The lack of meaningful consideration for residents who shop on the Eastbank Reliance on data from 2023 that may not reflect current conditions As residents, many of us, including myself, regularly shop on the Eastbank due to work schedules, school activities, and access to better quality products. This is a common, real-world pattern that must be considered in any accurate economic analysis. When studies do not reflect how people actually live and spend, the result can be ineffective planning and missed opportunities for our community. We respectfully request that JEDCO: Reevaluate and update the existing study Incorporate real consumer behavior, including cross-river shopping patterns Engage local expertise in future analyses Provide transparency in how decisions are made Our community deserves decisions based on reality, not assumptions.
