Cover Brighton Beach in sand
Brighton is a fantastic tourist destination but it would be even more attractive to tourists if it had a sandy beach. As one expert said, "people love a sandy beach". Another expert said "I really love sand".
The area of beach between the Marina and the King Alfred Leisure Centre represents 0.35 square miles of pebbly beach. Covering it with a 30cm layer of sand would require just 56,250 large bags of sand. If the council bought 150 of these a day and emptied them onto the beach then the beach could be covered in a single year. This would represent a cost of £6,000 a day, which is less than 2.5p per resident of Brighton. A fair price to pay if you get a sandy beach at the end of it, and the investment would more than pay for itself with the increase in tourism that a sandy beach would represent.
Please, Brighton & Hove City Council, listen to our concerns and start buying 150 bags of sand a day and emptying them onto the beach. The future of our city depends upon it.
